Sing Sistah Sing! Summer Update!
Exciting News! I am excited to announce that Sing Sistah Sing! Has been invited to be part of this summer’s Edinburgh International Festival. Due to the Corona crisis the entire festival has moved to a digital format. Titled “My Light Shines On” the festival highlights some of Scotland’s finest orchestras and artists. Richard Lewis my pianist and I are incredibly honoured to be among them. The show will be an “as live” recording from The Hub that will be part of the Chamber Music Soundscapes series being aired throughout Prince’s Street Gardens on Monday 17th August at 1pm and streamed online via Edinburgh International Festival’s YouTube channel. Find out more here.
This series of events take place Monday through Friday at 1pm from the 8th to the 28th of August. It is an opportunity to enjoy great concerts by some of the world’s most incredible talent in a socially-distanced picnic atmosphere. Fellow artists include, my friend and supremely talented mezzo soprano Karen Cargill, the concert pianist Steven Osborne, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and members of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra to name but a few. These concerts will also be available to view on the EIF YouTube channel.
The last five months of #Lockdown have been full of ups and downs as well of the horror of cancellations and the possibility that the art form I love, live performance, may never return as we know it. While these new ways to create and to perform are strange, and very challenging, I am grateful to be part of this “new artistic language”. I am also honoured to bring the voices and stories of African American female artists to a wider audience. Now more than ever it is so important for black folks to have a platform to tell our stories. I am grateful to the Edinburgh International Festival for giving me the opportunity to introduce you to these women, their music, our struggle and our stories.
I invite you to join us for this joyful, soulful celebration and to celebrate the return of music making!
